Stavros is a consultant specialist anaesthetist trained in the UK and Australia, based at Nepean Hospital in Sydney. While his technical interests include difficult airway management and ophthalmic anaesthesia, his main professional interest is in human factors (the study of human performance in clinical environments) and paratechnical (or non-technical) skills training a range of human factors topics, including communication, clinical teamwork and leadership, incident analysis, ethical disclosure of adverse events, training for professional resilience, the factors that affect human clinical performance, and how to avoid ‘death by PowerPoint’. Stavros is a co-founder of ErroMed, an Australian consultancy whose goal is to integrate human factors thinking into clinical teams throughout healthcare. Over the last 18 years he has personally delivered large-scale train-the-trainer programmes for governments and private sector clients across Australia and Canada, as well as lectures and smaller workshops around the world.
